Why I’m Applying for the UK Global Talent Visa and What It Means for My Creative Journey

Designer Chisom Ilo walking in London, visual metaphor for Global Talent journey

This post feels different to write. It’s not about a new collection, a runway show, or a big retail deal.
It’s about something personal and something powerful.

I’m applying for the UK Global Talent Visa

It’s taken me a while to sit with that sentence. Not because I don’t feel ready but because I’ve always been more focused on the work than the labels.

But over the past six years, I’ve watched Chi & Stainless grow from a quiet brand in Lagos into something that now exists across Nigeria, the UK, North America, and the Caribbean.
And at the heart of that growth is the truth I’m ready to share:

I want to keep building globally, but with my roots firmly intact.

Creative Identity in Motion

🌍 Why the UK?

The UK has always felt like a crossroads of heritage and innovation.
As a designer whose work sits at the intersection of cultural memory and modern tailoring, I believe this space can elevate and challenge me at the same time.

I’m already building connections in the UK fashion ecosystem—from my recent work with Margaret Howell, to collaborations, shows, mentorship, and artisan storytelling.

I don’t want to just work in the UK.
I want to contribute to its creative evolution—with a diasporic voice rooted in truth.

💼 What I Bring to the Table

  • A brand that has grown organically through design integrity, not trend chasing
  • International experience: Fe Noel (NY), Hudayya Couture (NG), Margaret Howell (UK)
  • Fashion that is Afrocentric but universal, rooted in ancestry, precision, and purpose
  • A personal commitment to mentorship, artisan collaboration, and industry exchange

“Fashion as Contribution”

This isn’t about migration, it’s about creative expansion.
It’s about standing on stages that reflect the magnitude of the story I’m telling through fabric.

The UK Global Talent route isn’t just a visa. It’s an invitation to create louder, build deeper, and collaborate further.

And I’m ready.
