Collaborating with Hudayya Couture on a Global Stage
In fashion, some collaborations are about exposure.
Others are about intention. This was both.
In June 2021, I joined Hudayya Couture as a consulting designer, a creative experience that would take me deeper into the luxury world of African modest fashion, culminating in a global showcase at Arise Fashion Week during the Dubai Expo.
What began as a quiet studio role in Abuja turned into one of the most transformative design journeys I’ve ever taken.
“Elegance in Progress”
Working with Hudayya Couture, I came face-to-face with a design language that values subtlety, structure without excess, and elegance that speaks softly but unmistakably.
I was invited to design and advise on collections for their international runway debut, pieces that would be worn by women representing culture, refinement, and spiritual confidence.
The goal wasn’t to overwhelm. It was to whisper beauty through fabric.
“Refined Expression”
🌍 From Abuja to Dubai: The Arise Fashion Week Moment
The final garments were unveiled at Arise Fashion Week at Dubai Expo 2021, a spectacular moment of African excellence on a world stage.
Watching the gowns flow under the spotlights, adorned with embroidery from northern Nigerian artisans, I felt a wave of pride. This was African craftsmanship—not diluted, not adapted. Whole. Beautiful. Powerful.
To have my hand in shaping that story was an honour I carry with humility.
This collaboration taught me:
- The power of technical refinement
- The importance of respecting design philosophies outside your own
- And the value of collective excellence—how a strong atelier works like a chorus, every voice needed
